After a thrilling win, Georgia Tech linebacker Tre’ Jackson really made it a day he’ll never forget.
While celebrating with the fans in a corner of Bobby Dodd Stadium, Jackson dropped to a knee and proposed to girlfriend Desi Nathe.
A couple of weeks ago, Jackson asked coach Paul Johnson if he could propose on the field _ assuming the Yellow Jackets pulled out the victory.
The team did its part, upsetting No. 17 Virginia Tech 28-22.
“I missed it,” Johnson said, chuckling. “He had asked me and told me he was going to do that. In all honesty, I forgot about it.”
Jackson had a backup plan if the outcome didn’t go Georgia Tech’s way..
“I said, ‘Tre’, what are you going to do if we don’t win the game?'” Johnson recalled. “He goes, ‘Well, I’ll do it on the plaza (outside the stadium) afterward.”
Jackson might’ve gotten the idea from Houston shortstop Carlos Correa, who proposed to his girlfriend on the field at Dodger Stadium while the Astros were celebrating their first World Series championship.
Jackson is a fourth-year junior who plays primarily on special teams.
He didn’t get on the field against Virginia Tech, but it’s a game he’ll remember forever.
“Congratulations to him,” Johnson said. “I know he was excited.”
