The Affordable Care Act continues to remain unstable in Georgia.
Anthem, a part of Blue Cross Blue Shield, decided they were pulling out of the individual health insurance market in Georgia.
On Monday, Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, announced that they would only cover up to 85 counties in Georgia. According to Hudgens’ office, if Blue Cross Blue Shield would have pulled out of Georgia, many Georgians would have had to leave the area to find health insurance, find a new job, or not have any coverage.
Individuals with employer sponsored insurance will still have coverage. This new change only impacts the individual health insurance market.
According to a statement from Blue Cross Blue Shield, trying to provide coverage in Georgia continues to be uncertain and makes it difficult to provide individual health insurance plans statewide.
